His best friend, Michael Mell (on whose backpack Rich has written "riends"), tries to comfort Jeremy by telling him that being a loser is okay.

Final verdict: BE MORE CHILL has broad appeal not only because of the fascinating plot but also for its easy to connect with storyline and relatable high school experience. In the musical Rich set a fire and he burned down the house because of some kind of conflict with his squip; either he tries to shut it off and it turns against him or it randomly goes berserk and malfunctions. That is, until he finds out about “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. The discussions that can stem from the book are pretty widespread, including peer pressure, homophobia, sexism, reliance on technology, mental illness (another student mentions cutting), and drug/alcohol use. Ned's stories often drew on his struggles with anxiety and depression, yet they had a strong comic bent. Jeremy plans to implement his plans as he and Christine both practice for their school play, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Tells him that he needs to get rid of the squip by drinking Mountain Dew Red (which was never mentioned by anyone until this point).

Didn't Think This Through: Confessing your love to a girl in the middle of a play she's been treating as Serious Business isn't the best way to win her heart. Tall-ass” is canon; he says it to get Michael to move away from the trashcan so Rich can dump his entire lunch, tray included, directly into the trash. The worst thing that it does is tell Jeremy to blow off Michael, but when Jeremy makes it clear that’s not something he’s willing to do, the squip just kind of shrugs and is like, okay, whatever; makes my job harder, but fine. In 2021, it was announced that the production, featuring the original London cast, would resume performances on the West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre for a 10-week run starting June 30. Jeremy is a boring character, and the writing style was so poor I would have expected it to be written by a middle schooler.Very clever story, beautiful executed – definitly one to take notice of, and one of the cleverest plots I've come across in a long time. At school, he continues to talk with Christine during play rehearsals, but he realizes that she already has a boyfriend, Jake Dillinger. The squip gets Jeremy to work out, stop masturbating, speak his mind, and tell his parents the truth.

But other than that I highly suggest watching Be More Chill and reading the Be More Chill book because both are very good. By the time Jeremy belts out his final number, 'Voices in My Head,' you’ll be hearing those voices, too, in a wow of a musical that comes on like gangbusters. But Jeremy discovers that there is a dark side to handing over control of your life—and it can have disastrous consequences.

An Off West End production opened on February 18, 2020, and temporarily closed on March 16, 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with the production being cancelled on June 3, 2020. The novel, on the other hand, takes a more lighthearted approach and incorporates a lot more humor and carelessness. The SQUIP concludes to Jeremy that it is no longer of use to him, and that it should be dumped out of his system with Mountain Dew Code Red. When that unsurprisingly goes poorly, Jeremy is shocked and angry because the squip did not work as advertised.
