Beryl says Jock's farm had nearly the same views as her home in Green Hills "but [she] couldn't quite convince [her]self [she] belonged there. and] a fat and perfectly browned rum baba " like Karen served for the royal dinner before the safari. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages. I respected and admired him through and through, and if the love I felt for him wasn't exactly the kind that could send me over the top of mountain on horseback in the middle of the night, it was quietly solid.

I think the most romantic part of the whole book was when Denys acknowledged that they had not spent the six days together like they had planned to. Knowing how the novel romanticized a painful chapter in Kenyan history made this an uncomfortable read that felt about as real as a Harlequin novel. Fans of The Paris Wife will be captivated by Circling the Sun…[the] book is both beautifully written and utterly engrossing.You could see it from our farm in Njoro, in the British East African Protectorate—hard edged at the far end of a stretching golden plain, its crown glazed with ice that never completely melted.

Before Kenya was Kenya, when it was millions of years old and yet still somehow new, the name belonged only to our most magnificent mountain. If you have read Out of Africa or seen the movie which Is Karen Blixen's account of life in Kenya and has many of the same characters, how do compare Beryl's and Karen's accounts?I very much enjoyed THE PARIS WIFE by Paula McLain and OUT OF AFRICA, the movie with Meryl Streep as Karen Blixen and Robert Redford as Denys Finch Hatton.
