About this deal

The online messages are few and far between, and those that we are granted are less than impressive, and really the best old movie discussion we get is from the quotes at the beginning of the chapters - WHICH INCLUDE FILMS LIKE PITCH PERFECT AND CLUELESS AND EASY A! There's a lot of really rich detail, from the location it takes place to the museum where Bailey, Grace and Porter work, to the references to all the films they love. Sure, he does shitty things and I'm not saying that he should be let off the hook, BUT I was shocked at the amount of victim blaming going on there. Now we just have to wait for the dumbest protagonist in world history to figure out what has been increasingly apparent since, like, page 5. When I saw the word “killing” written as “K-I-L-L-I-N-G”, I thought it was meant to be spelled out when read.

While with strangers he paints the persona of a cocky surfer, but that mask easily falls away with Bailey. Once he starts to open himself up to Bailey and the possibility of knowing her, we get to discover the other facets of his personality. If I had the option, I would have rather gone into this book knowing nothing, finishing it with an untainted love for a new novel. And also, guys, in case you needed a disappointment cherry on top of this infuriating sundae, Bailey is so totally not like other girls. Forced to take a summer job in a museum, she's constantly argues (flirtatiously so) with her surfer coworker Porter.I think there’s notion that bringing yourself to pleasure is sinful, especially for young women, so it was refreshing to have a YA book show it positively. Jenn Bennett is an award-winning author of young adult books, including Alex, Approximately ; Starry Eyes ; The Lady Rogue ; and Always Jane , and the middle grade novels Grumbones and The Knight Thieves .

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. this was a fun lil enemies to lovers fix, i’m obsessed with summer and i wanted a good summer read and this book was perfect for that. For example, when Bailey meets the forty-year-old cop girlfriend of her father, guess what said cop says? It was pretty obvious to me from the very beginning that Porter was Alex, but I’m glad that it came out in a non-frustrating way.

Gleichzeitig aber sucht sie auch nach Alex, ihrem Chat-Freund, den sie zwar noch nie gesehen hat, mit dem sie aber auch eine enge Freundschaft verbindet. Porter's former best friend takes on a sort of villainous role, but there's something still pathetic about him, an addict who was led down a dark path after a serious injury.

Also, even though it's literally so obvious who Alex is, they tell you in the freaking description of the book. Here you’ll find anything and everything friendship, bookish and gay, with maybe some writing and film reviews thrown in. This book was exactly what I wanted it to be; fun, fluffy, meaningful and full of hilarious moments!

Jenn Bennett is the author of over a dozen books, including the young adult titles Alex, Approximately; Serious Moonlight; Starry Eyes; and The Lady Rogue. Two subplots and a few too many tropes of the romance genre threaten to send the story off the rails, but the focus mostly stays on Bailey and Porter, who carry the day like true stars--the heroes and heroines of their beloved movies would be proud. Alex, though, still thinks she lives on the East Coast, and doesn't know her real name--Bailey's mom is a high-powered divorce attorney, and Bailey is all too familiar with the value of privacy. The picture-perfect California setting and Porter’s surfing subplot injects the book with a firm dose of summer-friendly escapism and the heavy influence of classic cinema gives everything a wonderfully nostalgic and, yes, romantic tint. There's also a broader consideration of trust and it does well at depicting male characters who experience a full range of emotion - both genders get to be strong.

Each member of the Roth family is uniquely eccentric, yet you can see how much they all love each other through their interactions. If we’ re meant to be, and he’ s the person I imagine him to be, then things will all work out fine. To me, that's the mark of a good story- when you're able to suspend your disbelief (I mean, really- what are the odds of him living in the same town as her father? Turns out there might exist a heart under this tough stone cold exterior that hands out lit matches to every other book she reads. You know when a book has EVERYTHING that could possibly make it perfect and it’s CHARMING and HILARIOUS and RELATABLE and SWOONWORTHY?
