About this deal

One of 450,000 children in foster care, Ambroz managed—with the help of sympathetic supporters and his own fierce determination—to escape the system that threatened to relegate him to the same “slide from poverty to disaster” that dogged his youth. That being said, if you are on the lookout for trigger warnings related to child abuse and neglect, this book might be too much. After growing up homeless and then in foster care, he graduated from Vassar College and later from UCLA School of Law. Through persistence he secures a yearlong high school study abroad trip to Spain and in the luckiest break he gets the best mother in the exchange. In this sharp-edged biography, the author likens Musk to an earlier biographical subject, Steve Jobs.

The faith aspect of it was wonderful and I really appreciated the prayers and scripture used throughout. In his riveting debut memoir, lawyer and child welfare advocate Ambroz recounts an early life of poverty, cruelty, and degradation. Desmond, who grew up in modest circumstances and suffered poverty in young adulthood, points to the deleterious effects of being poor—among countless others, the precarity of health care and housing (with no meaningful controls on rent), lack of transportation, the constant threat of losing one’s job due to illness, and the need to care for dependent children. As the dim lights of the train station faded, Christine Bennett wondered if she would ever see home again.

The wonderfully nostalgic and heartwarming new novel from the Sunday Times Top Ten bestselling author of The Beggar Maid. The words of his will rang in her ears: "In the event of my granddaughter's death, everything will go to Vince Jeffers. From pioneer fiction to a series set in Victorian England to a contemporary novel, Lori's books (over 5 million in print) continue to delight readers and top the Christian bestselling fiction list. What emerges clearly is that Musk, who may or may not have Asperger’s syndrome (“Empathy did not come naturally”), has nurtured several obsessions for years, apart from a passion for the letter X as both a brand and personal name.I am very disappointed to hear that she stopped writing novels, because I think even a crappy book written by her is worth reading.

Her designs are internationally famous and she is particularly known for her nostalgic floral patterns. Ambroz was able to see that his mother, with her mental issues, was not equipped to take care of them. Throughout the book Ambroz constantly wonders about the supports that were supposed to be protecting children in his and similar situations. He has a clear path for how these people and organizations can do better and while his story is heartbreaking, he leaves the reader with hope that we as a society can improve the system.
