About this deal

The Nighthaunt Vanguard set makes it easy to get into the army and gives you a reasonable starting position. Balefire Blade –Add 1 to the damage characteristic of a bearer’s melee weapon. Solid all around weapon choice. B The core book came with a lot of Battalions and so by sheer number a few manage to actually succeed and see use in competitive play. Nighthaunt Procession Also, if you don’t think Revenants are worth it at all since they’re not much better than Reapers and they don’t count as battleline, then let me know as well. A niche utility unit that doesn’t see much play. They can attempt to unbind a spell as a wizard does, gaining +1 to the unbind roll for every 4 models. And that’s it. You likely won’t have enough models to get more than +1 to unbinding without paying more points than they’re really worth. While they can also eat an endless spell, it comes at the cost of the unit taking D3 mortal wounds, something you cannot afford on a unit of one wound models. You have plenty of casters, let them do the heavy lifting. Dreadscythe Harridans

Low. Nighthaunts have been through an interesting up and down. They used to do reasonably well, then faced a decline that they haven’t really recovered from. You’ll see the occasional list appear on tournaments but not as often as one would like. It suffers from early battletome syndrome and it’s just very hard for them to make up the lost ground of having inferior army traits to newer, fresher books. Nighthaunts vs. Legion of Grief Immune to Rend –All of your units ignore modifiers to saves, positive or negative making high rend opposition useless. Reroll all failed hit rolls for Chainrasps within 15″ of spirit torment or Chainghasts. This would be awesome if Spirit Torments and Chainghasts were just a bit better, as it stands the tax is just too high. Chainguard

Mortal Realms is a microcosm of hobby. It’s everything you need to learn, play and paint your models, drip feed over period of time you can slowly build your collections for a great price. With painting guides, battle plans, warscrolls, Warscroll battalions, lore, paints, models and so much more it’s a really fun way to experience the hobby at a great price. Value The downside is that they have no save against -2 Rend or better, realistically a charging Fulminator could remove the unit in one round. Much more diversity in artefacts here, 3 tables with 6 weapons, 6 relics and 3 lanterns which are exclusively used by Guardian of Souls. Weapons of the Damned Always innovating, the high-flying duardin will find a handful of fresh Guild Triumphs in Broken Realms: Be’lakor.

All enemy units suffer -1 Bravery within 6″ of a Nighthaunt unit. Your units are mostly melee based so you’ll be in melee range most of the time, nice little buff that will help get a few extra models but it wont change the game by itself. Deathless Spirits Behind the Daemons, the Nighthaunt also receive some very serious boosts in Broken Realms: Be’lakor, making this book a must-have for generals of the ethereal hosts. No Subfactions – In a rather baffling decision, Nighthaunts don’t have subfactions like other books. It was a launch battletome so it’s likely they did not know at the time those would be so important. When they were first introduced the Nighthaunt were competitive but they faded a little with the arrival of the Elves (Daughters of Khaine, Idoneth and finally Lumineth). As an army they reward considered play and take a little bit to get the best from. Nighthaunt suits a player that is willing to take their time and wants to make the most of their opponents’ mistakes. Much of Reikenor's origins are mysterious, lost to time, but what is known is that he was once a learned sorcerer-king who sought to overcome death. Through the magic of Hysh - harnessing the very light of reason - Reikenor worked towards preventing all mortality. His quest for knowledge on the subject was all-consuming, and he attracted many acolytes and followers. Eventually Reikenor's attempts to unbind the workings of death drew the ire of Nagash himself. [1a] With lots of choices for heroes I’ve used Reiknor, who is a bit expensive at 190 points, because he gives some mobility and is a wizard with combat capability. To get value from him you will need to use him in combat but with only 7 wounds and a 4+ save he can be pretty squishy even with a 6+ ward. He needs to be accompanied by the Spirit Host for their “bodyguard” ability which restricts him to an 8” move. So what does he bring? His combat skills first: Weapon

Reikenor really shines in the Hero phase with his Corpse Candles ability. Sometimes, you really, really need a spell to go off – maybe there’s an enemy Hero who’s just asking to be suddenly and violently acquainted with the Purple Sun of Shyish, or perhaps you’ve got a combo in mind and you don’t want it to be unbound. Corpse Candles lets you do just that – and you can even use it to harm your enemies! Many Character Options –This book has a lot of characters which can drastically influence your army composition. Lightshard of the Harvest Moon –Pop this once per game. Once you do every unit within 12″ can reroll failed hits. Crazy good with the right timing, but you need to manage the aura around the Guardian of Souls. B+

Nighthaunt.

These are equipped on Guardian of Souls only. They’re pretty niche and rarely taken but you will likely bring Guardian of Souls in many lists so it’s not entirely without merit. Mortalis Terminexus –Casting Value 6. Predatory endless spell that moves 8″. After moving the model the controlling player chooses to reverse time (Heal D3 wounds for all units within 6″) or advance time (Deal D3 wounds in 6″). In Shyish the range is increased to 12. Actually decent utility and could see use. This list is meant to be straightforward and adaptable. Everything is in a battle regiment to give control of priority, however there is an option to place 3 of the battle line infantry into Expert Conquerors and the remainder into a Battle Regiment. Expert Conquerors makes the infantry count as 3 models on objectives – the Chainrasp would count as 60 models. Our Preference is to go second to make your opponent come to you (keep out of line of sight if they have shooting) and hopefully get the double turn. You can also redeploy up to 3 units via Vanishing Phantasms into reserve before the start of combat and then set them up in ambush (9” from the enemy). Shrieking Blade –-1 to hit the bearer with melee weapons. Good protection as while your Heroes aren’t affected by rend you cant improve their save either, so you need to find other ways to protect them B+ In Shyish, Reikenor is known by many names - the Grimhailer, the Reaper-wraith and the Storm Rider among them. Sorcerer, master of terror, reaper of souls, fell lieutenant of Nagash - Reikenor is all these things and more. [1a]
