About this deal

This focal length is optimal for nightscapes, and this lens's ultra-wide aperture is highly complementary for such use. This material is so high-quality that we’re also incorporating it into our Art and Sports lenses to provide lightness and thermal consistency." [Sigma] Also, if this was intended for APS-C rather than m4/3, wouldn't that be great for cameras like the Oly's that use pixel shift to capture higher resolution images? If the sensor is shifting positions, I'd imagine the bigger size (APS-C vs m4/3) of the lens will give the the sensor more room to stay within the lens'"sweet spot" while moving around.

I’m also happy to say that the autofocus was very accurate. I rarely experienced missed shots, and this is important, especially when you consider the 16mm is an f1.4 lens, so sometimes, the depth of field can be pretty shallow, especially when you’re shooting closer. Look at the DxO results for more accurate results. They have more sophisticated methodology for lens tests. Creating wide apertures requires larger, heavier lens elements that translate into larger, heavier, and more expensive lenses. The USPS love stamps shared above have an image area that measures 1.05 x 0.77" (26.67 x 19.558mm), and the overall individual stamp size is 1.19 x 0.91" (30.226 x 23.114mm). The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA’s inner focus technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focus lens group make possible a more compact actuator. Moreover, this lens offers outstanding stability whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact, lightweight structure. In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability.Visit us and you'll always find a friendly welcome. Our policy is to treat our customers as we would like to be treated ourselves, a simple ideal that we try hard to live up to. The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 handles being pointed into the sun with aplomb. I tried shooting toward the sun over the course of a few hours at different angles and never had issues with flaring or ghosting. It also seems like chromatic aberrations are well controlled. It does have some longitudinal chromatic aberration, where out-of-focus elements can show purple and/or green fringing. However, that was minor and not often noticeable. If I wanted to shoot nothing else but 35mm I'd probably go FF, and a Sony A7 (any of them) with the tiny 35/2.8 would be smaller and lighter than most CaNikon alternatives. Or you know what? If I was really that in love with 35mm I'd just use an RX1 or X100. I happen to like using UWAs as well as teles for shooting landscapes tho... I'd kind of agree M4/3 doesn't hold much of a size advantage on lenses at the very wide end, but bodies and teles are a different story. With many lenses utilizing 67mm filters, effects filter sharing is highly potential, and the moderate size keeps the price down. I bought into the MfT format knowing I was making some practical compromises for the conveniences of size and weight. I don't expect to pay through the nose for those.

Electronic connections in extension tubes permit the lens and camera to communicate and otherwise function normally. TSC is a state-of-the-art polycarbonate that is designed to be both lightweight and extremely durable, and its chemical makeup means it doesn’t shrink or expand with changing temperatures.Next, we'll look at a series of comparisons showing 100% resolution extreme top left corner crops captured and processed identically to the above center-of-the-frame images. As the aperture narrows, the entrance pupil size is reduced, and the mechanical vignetting absolves with the shapes becoming rounder. Corner sharpness does not always matter, but it does matter for many disciplines, including landscape photography. Using a neutral density filter is a good solution to retaining the use of f/1.4 under direct sunlight when the shutter limitation is exceeded.

Taking the testing outdoors, we next look at a series of center of the frame 100% resolution crop examples.

Here’s another shot taken at f1.4 with the camera set at 100 ISO. Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Pros And Cons: Pros: In addition to reducing camera shake, the stabilized imaging sensor provides a still viewfinder image, enabling careful composition. While telephoto lenses are more frequently used for sports, a 16mm angle of view allows a very different perspective at these events. The spherical aberration color halo shows little size change as the lens is defocused, and stopping down one to two stops generally removes this aberration.
