Description

The weight of the YN 50 / 1.8S is only 146 grams. Light weight goes well with the lightweight Sony NEX / Alpha cameras. The YN 50 / 1.8S is similar to its original siblings from Sony - the lens is small, lightweight, no switches, an electronic focus ring, etc. The lens uses a Canon mount EF ( Eelectro- Focus) - primarily designed for Canon EOS full-frame cameras. Suitable for Canon mount cameras EF и Ef-s. A widespread USB 2.0 MICRO-B port is used to connect to the lens (many mobile phones use just that). A USB cable is not included. To connect, I used a USB cable for my Android phone and updated the firmware without any problems. The procedure took less than 10 seconds.

Sharpness is very good indeed, even at f/1.8, the Yongnuo almost matching the much pricier Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S. Bokeh is a little fidgety even when shooting wide-open at f/1.8, and not the smoothest that we’ve seen from a 50mm f/1.8 lens, but it’s still pretty good and remains so when stopping down a little, helped by the well-rounded 9-blade aperture diaphragm. It is stated that the new version may receive firmware updates through the camera. It is completely unknown how this will happen. There is nothing in the instructions about this. Arkady, is there an opportunity to test this lens on 6000 models? It is interesting how focusing will work with cameras that support phase focusing, on the same sigma, it seems like phase focus points are displayed only in the square in the center of the frame. The first lens from the company Yongnuo Digital was a nifty fifty lens for Canon EOS cameras – Yongnuo Lens EF 50mm 1:1.8 (YN50mm F1.8), presented on December 27, 2014.

I worked with the lens on the camera Canon EOS 5D с simple 9-point focusing system and on camera Canon EOS 750D (aka Canon Digital Rebel T6i, aka Canon Kiss Digital X8i) from 19-point advanced focusing system and Hybrid CMOS AF III for live view focus. Focusing tenacity is not bad, but still there are more focus errors than you might expect. Focusing errors are unsystematic and are often associated with low depth of field at F / 1.4. Bayonet type hood. The hood is not included in the delivery, the instruction does not indicate its type / marking. Fit Canon ES-71II or any clone of it

Important: Please note that the Yongnuo YN50mm F1.8 lens model, in versions for Nikon and Canon, looks very different from one another. Usually, third-party lenses such as Tokina, Tamron, Sigma, Carl Zeiss, etc., have a very similar barrel design for versions for different systems. the lens does not use aspherical elements, but only ED elements, which helps to avoid concentric circles on blur discs During focusing, there is no extension or rotation of the filter thread (analogue of the internal focusing) Got a question. I use YN50 / 1.4 with Canon 7D and Canon 5D2. The essence of the problem is that the lens focuses confidently and tenaciously only on the center point or when the AF mode is selected on all points. If you choose any of the lateral focusing points, the lens starts to “crawl” during focusing and tenaciously grabs only some contrasting transitions, usually, such as a light cloth-hand, for example, or a sky-edge fence (I think it's clear what I mean). In other cases, let's say on some one-color object it can “crawl” for a very long time and not focus, or it can immediately grab. The trouble is, I can't really grasp the pattern. This is normal? By the way, on 7D with this glass, focusing is slightly better and more confident than on 5D2, but the problem still remains I doubt though if it will be as good as my 10 year or so old EF 50mm f1.4. Automatic image corrections built into present Canon cameras and some editing software corrects most errors in known Canon lenses. Youngnu wont correct in Canon cameras and not likely in editing software such as DXO. I imagine the build quality is probably inferior to Canon lenses.

Bokeh, by the way, seems less distracting than for example the Canon 50mm 1.8 STM (on the open aperture). The automatic focusing of the lens is fast enough. The autofocus speed is comparable to the Nikon 50/1.8G.

The functionality of the Yn50mm F1.8 DA DSM FM Updater utility (Update Tool 1.0.0.5), which is responsible for working with the YN 50 / 1.8S lens, is very meager. You can only see the current firmware version and update it to a new one. I found this utility for my YN 50 / 1.8S here (and at the end of the description here). There is a version of the utility only for the latest Windows operating systems. there is strong friging ( HA in the blur zone) and blooming ( HA on very contrasting small details) The lens has a built-in focus motor, so the Yongnuo YN50mm F1.8N will automatically focus on all Nikon digital SLR cameras, even on Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600. Yongnuo 50 / 1.4 uses more complex and unusual optical design... Canon 50 / 1.4 USM uses the classic Gaussian dual lens design, inherited from Canon FD 50mm f / 1.4 and used in a huge number of old 50 / 1.4 class XNUMXs (as an example - Nikon 50 / 1.4D) After just one night out in the field with it I can say it will work. It was will be a little difficult to focus and watch out for the flare with the moon. Take the moon out of the equation and it will be very similar experience and images to using a Canon 50mm f/1.8.Press and hold the [DOF Preview] Button, continuously toggle the focus mode switch of the lens for 10 times, and release the [DOF Preview] button to enter the fine-tuning system. His expertise with equipment doesn’t end there, though. He is also an encyclopedia when it comes to all manner of cameras, camera holsters and bags, flashguns, tripods and heads, printers, papers and inks, and just about anything imaging-related. The YN 50 / 1.8S easily handles the 20MP APS-C type Exmor CMOS sensor at the heart of the camera Sony α3500 (ILCE-3500)... Optically, this is a good lens, of the obvious shortcomings - only chromatic aberration. A fairly flat field of sharpness over the entire frame deserves special attention. It’s quite difficult to notice the subsidence of sharpness even in the corners of the image. At the cost of the new Yongnuo 50 / 1.8 II, you can buy the original Canon 50 / 1.8 II in a condition of used, in fact, which I recommend doing in cases of choice between Canon 50 / 1.8 II and Yongnuo 50 / 1.8 II.
